Republic of China (Taiwan) National Day

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Caracas will celebrate the "Double Tenth Day" or National Day of the Republic of China on October 6 with a reception in the Reveron Room of the J.W. Marriott Hotel in Caracas. Representative Mr. Joseph Kuo and Mrs. Kuo will host the reception, which will take place from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

The Republic of China, the first republic of Asia, was founded officially on January 1st, 1912. Later October 10, known popularly as “Double Tenth”, was assigned as the National Day of the country instead of the original of their foundation.

The reason of this change of date is due to that on October 10th, 1911, a group of followers of the revolutionary cause of Dr. Sun Yat-sen rose in Wuchang, county of Hupei, the flag of the rebellion against the corrupt manchues government. The incident united the whole Chinese people in a geste that brought the overthrow of the imperial regime and the creation of the Republic of China.

Through their republican life, the nation has had gone by many vicissitudes and it has overcome enormous obstacles in its development process. Now, with the achievements reached by the Republic of China in Taiwan, a better future is glimpsed for a new united, free, democratic and prosperous China.
